    Arrive in Reykjavík

    In from Keflavík with a stop at the Sky Lagoon's sea-edge pools to get rid of the flight, then a hotel in the old centre.

    The Golden Circle

    Þingvellir, where the plates pull apart and the old parliament met, Geysir's Strokkur going off every ten minutes, and Gullfoss.

    The south coast

    Seljalandsfoss to walk behind, Skógafoss, then crampons on for two hours up Sólheimajökull, and Reynisfjara's black sand at Vík.

    Across the Skeiðarársandur to Skaftafell for a canyon walk, then Jökulsárlón's icebergs and Diamond Beach in the late light.

    A long, empty day round the fjords — reindeer, fishing villages of forty houses, and the puffin cliffs at Borgarfjörður if it is summer.
