Arrive and settle in

Rafting the Ayung
Grade two water, so it suits children from about seven, with a long soft stretch through carved gorge walls and lunch at the take-out.

Elephants and rice fields
The Mason sanctuary at Taro in the morning — rescued Sumatran elephants, no riding — then a short terrace walk and the pool by three.

Down to Sanur
An hour south to flat water and a beachfront hotel. Bicycles come with the room; the boardwalk runs five kilometres.

Bali Safari
A full day at Gianyar — the night safari is the better half if the children can hold out, and a hotel dinner after either way.

Turtle island and the boardwalk
A glass-bottom boat to Serangan's hatchery in the morning, then an easy afternoon with kayaks off Sanur beach.

Across to Nusa Dua
Forty minutes to the reef-protected bay in the south, a resort with a proper kids' club, and the waterblow at the headland before dinner.
