Day 1
Arrive at Zürich, on to Lucerne
The airport train through to Lucerne in an hour, a hotel by the Reuss, and an evening walk across the Kapellbrücke.

Day 2
Lake Lucerne and Mount Rigi
A paddle steamer across the lake to Vitznau, the cogwheel railway up Rigi, and the cable car down to Weggis for the boat back.

Over the Brünig to Interlaken
The Luzern–Interlaken Express along two lakes, then up to Grindelwald for the afternoon with the Eiger straight ahead.

Jungfraujoch
The early train through Kleine Scheidegg and up inside the Eiger to 3,454 m, then back down for the Lauterbrunnen valley's waterfalls.

Mürren, and the Eiger Trail
The cable car to car-free Mürren, then the six-kilometre trail under the north face from Eigergletscher down to Alpiglen.

West to Zermatt
Three trains through the Lötschberg tunnel and up the Mattertal to a village with no cars in it, and the Matterhorn at the end of the street.

Gornergrat
The rack railway to 3,089 m for the Matterhorn's east face and the Gorner glacier, then the walk down to Riffelberg past Riffelsee.

The Glacier Express's first leg down the Rhône valley, then the direct train to Zürich airport.
